In recognition of residents’ valiant effort to recycle, The City of Yorba Linda and Yorba Linda Disposal will host a Compost Giveaway on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Travis Ranch Elementary School, 5200 Via De La Escuela, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. (or until the compost runs out). Limit two containers per residence. Please bring your own containers, no bags please.
Recycle Yorba Linda is designed to conserve our natural resources by addressing today’s environmental issues, Recycling, Reusing and Reducing the volumes of waste dumped into our local landfills.
How It Works
The Recycle Yorba Linda program was designed with you in mind, and requires very little extra effort.
Organized - The program uses three 95 gallon containers: a black container for trash, a green container for recyclable items, and a brown container for yard waste. These specially designed containers, provided by Yorba Linda Disposal, are lightweight with built-in wheels for easy movement.
Efficient –The automated refuse collection system uses modern, robotic trucks to empty its containers.
Convenient - For your added convenience, all containers are collected on the same day each week.
Clean - Keep in mind, any waste placed outside of the containers provided by Yorba Linda Disposal, or placed in non-automated trash cans, cannot be collected with our automated truck service.
Sorting Guide - What Goes Where?
To make Recycle Yorba Linda a success, please follow these simple sorting guidelines and adopt these disposal practices. Your participation and support of Recycle Yorba Linda is a big step toward solving our waste problems.
Non-Recyclable Trash - Black Container
Animal and bathroom waste
Car parts
Carbon paper
Carpet
Cat litter
Cigarette butts
Dirt/cement/rock (do not fill more than 1/4 of container)
Placement
Place your containers in the street at curbside, near the edge of your driveway. Place the container's handles toward your home, and at least three feet away from any obstruction (car, fence, lamp, or mailbox, etc.). Allow a minimum distance of one foot between ALL automated containers. All containers must be at curbside by 7 a.m. or earlier on your collection day. Prior to removing your container from the curbside, please check to see if it has been emptied, as each container is emptied at a different time.
The diagram below shows the proper placement of your containers on your collection day.
Removal
By being a good neighbor and remembering to remove your trash, recycle and yard waste containers on collection day, you will be helping to keep your neighborhood neat and clean. Yorba Linda Municipal Code states that waste and recycling containers shall not be on the street or in view from the public for more than 24 hours.

Holiday Tree Collection
You can recycle your holiday tree by cutting it up and placing it in your yard waste container. A special collection for holiday trees will also be provided starting December 28, 2009 through January 8, 2010. This collection is provided free-of-charge on your regular collection day by a separate truck during this two week period. No appointment is required; just remove the decorations and the stand and place your tree along side your regular containers. Trees larger than six feet tall must be cut in half. Please do not bag your tree. Sorry, flocked trees cannot be recycled and will require a special pickup. Please either place flocked trees in your regular trash container or call us at (866) 238-2444 to schedule a bulky item pickup.
What type of containers must be used?
Participating households receive three specially designed containers: one BLACK container for trash, one GREEN container for recyclables, and one BROWN container for yard waste. The containers are designed for automated service and feature built-in wheels, handles and permanently attached lids. The automated collection system will only pick up waste placed in the special containers.
Will the containers hold all of my trash and recyclable items?
Each container holds 95 gallons, which is equal to three normal garbage cans. As a part of the Recycle Yorba Linda program, each qualifying resident receives one black container for trash, one green container for recyclables and one brown container for yard waste. Residents can order additional containers if needed. Residents will be charged an additional monthly fee for extra black trash containers and brown yard waste containers. Additional green containers are available for free to help encourage recycling.
Smaller 64-gallon containers are available for residents with special needs.
